Frequently Asked Questions

What is the role of Ponoka & District Health Foundation?

We exist to raise funds to enhance health services in Ponoka and the surrounding area, heighten community awareness regarding healthcare needs, and ensure funds raised are spent in and for the benefit of the town and district of Ponoka.

How do you ensure donations are spent in the community?

Since our founding by volunteers in 2011, we’ve worked with local healthcare professionals to determine how dollars raised in Ponoka and the surrounding area can be used to bolster and sustain high-quality health services in the community.

How does the Foundation operate?

Ponoka & District Health Foundation operates under the auspices of Foundation Relations of Alberta Health Services. AHS approves by-laws, the appointment of trustees, and requests for equipment or projects. An administrative grant is provided yearly. All monies raised are managed by a Board of Trustees.

How can donations be made to the Foundation?

We accept gifts in person at our office, by mail, online at our website, and through Canada Helps. Cheques can be made to Ponoka & District Health Foundation: Box 4274 Ponoka AB, T4J 1R6.

Are donations eligible for tax receipts?

Yes. Tax receipts are issued for all donations.

Can donations be made in memory of someone special, or through an estate?

Absolutely. One of the greatest satisfactions in making a charitable gift is the opportunity to pay tribute to someone who touched your life in a significant way. Through a commemorative gift – whether in memory of someone deceased or in honour of someone living – you’re able to recognize a relative, perpetuate your family name, or pay tribute to a mentor or friend. At the same time, your gift expresses your commitment to the future of your community and provides valuable support for the charitable purposes in which you believe. Commemorative Giving Brochures are available at Ponoka Hospital and Care Centre, Ponoka Community Health Centre, and at our local funeral homes.

What has the Foundation so far funded for health services in the region?

We’ve purchased numerous items since our founding, both through the Foundation exclusively and jointly with community partners. The 2022 Festival of Trees, for example, raised $100,000 for Cardiac Heart Monitors.

How do I join the Foundation if I’m interested, and how does the process work?

First, ask for an application by emailing PDHFPonoka@gmail.com. You can also contact any current trustee for an application. Completed applications are then reviewed, accepted by the Foundation, and recommended for approval to the AHS.

Can I volunteer?

Definitely. In the past, volunteers have assisted with various events including the Festival of Trees and Children’s Day in the Park, as well as in selling raffle tickets. To volunteer, simply email your query to PDHFPonoka@gmail.com.

2023 Festival of Trees

Proceeds from this year’s event will enhance our healthcare providers’ ability to perform intraoperative imaging with a mobile x-ray machine. The new mobile X-ray machine will make it possible to capture high-quality X-ray pictures of patients that cannot be moved to the X-ray department, for example critically ill or unstable patients. This will assist with providing safe, more efficient and high-quality care to patients.
